Today was a fun day! We began our day with a pizza tour of New York. From there we went to historic Rockefeller Center and the Top of the Rock which is 59 floors up, outside, and allows for a fabulous view of New York City. We then walked over to Grand Central Station, spent the day in Times Square, and had dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. After a wonderful week, we are now back on the road, heading home. Day 4 pics

Wow what a day! After breakfast, we left bright and early, departing for Carnegie Hall. (Do you know how to get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice!) While there, we were treated with an outstanding tour of the facility. Standing in that hall is like standing on musical holy ground.

After CH, we walked up to Central Park. There we saw the Strawberry Fields (based on John Lennon's famous song). We also visited the fountain, saw street performers, and took in the natural beauty of the park.

After lunch and a brief visit to Lincoln Center, we performed on the deck of the USS Intreped to an enthusiastic crowd. We then walked around the ship, taking in it's technical marvels.

The final event of the day was attending a show at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola Jazz Club. We heard fantastic musicians from the Manhattan School of Music perform and even got to meet the late great Charles Mingus' widow, Sue Mingus. All in all, things went very well today. This day was absolutely fantastic from beginning to end. We began our day (after a great breakfast) at DANY Studios (Dance Art New York). There we learned about and practiced stage combat! Here's a video sample of what the guys got to do: Stage Combat Video. We also had a Q&A session with Broadway pianist Mat Eisenstein.

We then walked over to John's Pizzeria to have lunch, when who surprised us but Brother David Galinski! (see previous entry).

After lunch we bused over to Queens for a tour of the Louis Armstrong House. Louis lived in the house from 1943 until his death in 1971. This was a really special moment for the guys and me.

We then drove back to Manhattan for a very cool tour of Radio City Music Hall. Television does not do that venue justice. It is immense, artistic, beautiful, and a feat of engineering.

Our last stop of the day was a spectacular performance of Jersey Boys! It featured the Tony Award-winning actor, John Lloyd Young, in the role of Frankie Valli. The performance earned a standing ovation and a tremendous amount of enthusiasm from the Shamrocks. Despite the music being more than twice as old as they are, the guys LOVED IT!

Her are some pics from the day: Day 2 Pics

So after an AMAZING Stage Combat workshop, we went to lunch at John's Pizzeria and guess who showed up? BROTHER DAVID!!!! Brother Dave is in NYC for the week as well, staying at Manhattan College, and decided to drop in on the Shamrocks and surprise them.

Well it was a cold but fun day in New York. After our long ride, we entered into NYC through the Lincoln Tunnel and met our tour guide Alice Deveraux at Battery Park who promptly escorted us on the the boat for our harbor boat cruise. There we saw Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty, Manhattan Island, and the Brooklyn Bridge. We then went to the 9/11 Memorial which was very emotional and surreal for those of us who remember what happened. The sheer size of the space and amount of casualties is staggering. We also visited Wall Street, St. Paul's Chapel, Chinatown and had a fantastic dinner at Ping's Restaurant. Time for some sleep for a busy day tomorrow. As hard as it may be to believe, we met Saint Pat's alum Joe Rowan '72 at a rest stop in eastern Indiana Friday night on our way to NYC! He even shared some stories of Dr. Schmidt, Mr. Presslak, and Mr. Troxell with us!
